Upper West Side New York Hotels
New York City is comprised of many neighborhoods, each with their own personality. The Upper West Side is no exception. Comprised of posh residential areas and awesome shopping opportunities, a visit to the Upper West Side gives you a glimpse of how the rich live and a taste of real New York life.
People from all over love the Upper West Side because it’s a relaxed, less tourist-filled area of Manhattan. It could even be referred to as ‘Manhattan Light’. Although it’s covered with tall buildings, it is sandwiched in between two beautiful parks, Central Park and Riverside Park, adding to its appeal and making it one of the most sought after places to live. Many celebrities, politicians and sports stars as well as successful entrepreneurs call the Upper West Side home, and it is very common to spot one while hanging out Uptown.
Unfortunately, not everyone is able to afford the luxe life of the Upper West Side. But that does not mean you cannot visit! Grab a frugal breakfast at Hot and Crusty and walk it off at Riverside Park. If you’re bringing your pup, you will be pleased to know that both Central Park and Riverside Park have dog friendly sections. Of course, also bring your case because the fine shopping boutiques may not allow pets. Lunch is fun, too, with numerous choices like Chinese, Jewish Deli, Mexican, Thai and sushi. While there, be sure to visit the restaurant Carmine’s for authentic family style Italian and or the Zagat-rated Parlor for burgers. Finish off the night by visiting the trendy new bars on Columbus Avenue like the Gin Mill or head uptown for salsa dancing. Although this neighborhood is full of wealth, you can catch great deals at Zabar’s deli and the clothing store Filene’s Basement on Broadway. There also are several specialty shops where you can find one-of-a-kind items only available on the Upper West Side.
Try not to forget that you are only minutes from the Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, known informally as the Met. The Cloisters is not far either and neither is Lincoln Center. Of course, the rest of Manhattan awaits by bus or subway. Historic Harlem and the Bronx also are only a few minutes away, too. You will find that there are lots of beautiful hotels to stay at when you are not sampling delicious ethnic foods or ogling some of the finest architecture the city has to offer.
